Open Directory is the largest human-edited catalog and "Flame" is a Meta-editor who focuses mainly on the Swedish and Arts sections of the directory. Meta-editors are a handful of volunteers who can edit anywhere in the directory, approve new editor applications, and investigate anyone found abusing the ODP system for their own gain.

The Open Directory indexes more than 2,500,000 sites and the editors work without compensation other than their satisfaction in working with their respective interests. Today more than 40,000 people has been involved in editing sites.
