Mobile Technology for Promotional Marketing by Jeff Weitzman, Coupons Inc.

In 2006 wireless subscribers in the United States reached 219.4 million, according to CTIA’s Semi-Annual Wireless Survey. That’s an overwhelming 72% of the country’s population carrying mobile phones – with most having some sort of Internet or email capability.

At this point then, it is only natural that brand marketers and retailers have started thinking about reaching consumers over the mobile channel. This session includes:

* Examples of promotions that can be run with mobile coupon technology
* The major features and advantages of allowing consumers to control the interface/interaction with mobile coupons
* How mobile coupons can target consumers while in stores where the coupons can be redeemed – providing additional incentives and motivating purchases at the point of sale

11:00 - 11:30 am Mobile Empowerment – A strategic approach to mobile engagement by Kirk Drummond, T-3

The mobile phone certainly presents a number of opportunities for text and display advertising as content tailored for the mobile user continues to grow.

However, as many indicators show, consumer’s interest in “advertising”, as we know it today, delivered to their mobile phone has limited interest at best.

If we look at the bigger picture of what today’s mobile devices provide the mobile platform is not just another screen on which to display advertising but rather a powerful device with which to create significant brand-to-consumer engagements.

The Future of User Generated Media by Adi Sideman, Oddcast

User generated media and the technology behind this phenomenon is changing the way brands communicate with their consumers and the way consumers talk back to and spread their vision of what a brand represents.

As rich media technology continues to advance and broadband connection speeds increase the target customer now has access to all forms of media (e.g., video, animation, etc.) in the online world. Subsequently, advertisers can pick and choose from a list of medium that extends far beyond traditional communications channels.

During this interactive session Adi Sideman, CEO of Oddcast will take a look at the ever-changing media landscape and how new technologies are challenging and complementing traditional advertising mediums. He will use key project examples including Career Builder's Monk-e-Mail, ESPN Voice of the Fan and others to demonstrate and educate audience members on how major brands are leveraging this new form of media.

Benefits:
Through the use of case studies and dissemination of key insights the audience will gain a better understanding of:
- the value of consumer self-expression and how the new user generated medium is changing the communications landscape
- how advanced rich media technologies complement as well as disrupt traditional media
- the business and technical pros and cons on the use of video vs. animated talking characters
- how to approach the creative process and integrate ideas that will help to accomplish key objectives

Use the Mobile as a Response/Activation device by Gary Schwartz, Impact Mobile

Gary Schwartz suggests to use the mobile device as a response/activation mechanism from the ads that surround the on-the-go audience where ever they be: sporting events, concerts, billboards, print, TV, airports...

All ads can implement a drive-to-mobile element. He labels the wireless device as a 'mobile mouse' that enables users to click on ads and content they see during their busy days.

Gary is also head of the mobile committee at the IAB

Leveraging Mobile Search as an Advertising Platform: Promise vs. Execution by Craig MacDonald, SEMDirector

Mobile is a hot topic in the advertising community. Advertisers want to know how to leverage mobile devices in order to promote products and services and allow consumers to search on company brands to find out information. The promise is large; however the execution continues to be difficult.

In a recent campaign SEMDirector ran for a consumer electronics manufacturer, the SEMDirector team found that for a set of campaigns to run on both Google Search and Google Mobile, the cost of the advertisements on the mobile platform was about 20% of the cost of advertising on the standard search platform; however, the conversion rate on Google Mobile was about 10% of that on the standard Google Search platform.
