==> TECHNOLOGY VERSUS ECONOMY - THE EVER GOING BATTLE APPLIED TO GOOGLE AND ITS COMPETITORS

At Lund University http://www.lu.se/, I studied a class called "Technology and Economic Growth". This class studied long term economic growth derived from changes in technological innovations. The class was highly interesting but very complex to understand.

This classical theme is very applicable in todays Internet Economy. Google is constantly launching innovations and is gaining economic growth. Google's main competitors such as Ebay, Microsoft and Yahoo - has been relying on the same innovations for a long period of time and as according to the theory - their economic growth is not as good.

As far as the future goes there are three interesting theories to think of:

1) Google becomes like its competitors and stops being as innovative as it is today (and no important innovations happens at the competitors). If this theory applies, the competition will increase and probably companies that we don't know of today will take the technological lead.

2) One of Google's competitors will rise to the challenge and tries to innovate better than Google is today. This theory is the most funny to think of and the one that business in general will have most to benefit from. Apple versus Microsoft is a classic battle that in the beginning of the PC-revolution really spurred technological and economic growth at the same time.

3) Nothing really changes in the near future to come. Google continues to be more innovative than its competitors and battles are fought in courts and at other arenas than the technological one in order to try and beat Google. This theory is the most negative one.

Of course, nobody really can say if an innovation is going to help economic growth or not - that's the big problem with these theories - many innovations just go away without doing any positive economic impact.

==> GOOGLE - CULT OR CORPORATION?

Is Google a cult, or is Google a corporation? It's hard to tell, and from the company's official literature it seems like it would really, really like to have it both ways.

==> NO BANNERS PLEASE, WE'RE BROWSING

Graphical banner ads have become the panhandlers of the Internet: very few people look at them anymore even if ads are right in front of them.

==> IS MICROSOFT SPYING ON YOU
