@ EDITORS NOTES – THE SCANDINAVIAN MARKET TAKES OFF

Dear Internet Marketer,
I hope you’re in good shape because there’s a lot to do. In Sweden and Scandinavia the conditions are such that “everybody” is interested in us.

In the daily newspapers there’s a steady stream of positive news about Search Engine Marketing, Affiliate Marketing and E-commerce. The boom didn’t come in 1998 as I first thought, but it doesn’t matter, it’s here now so be ready to get to work.

This issue is exciting as it comes exactly a month after our last issue which means we are right on track for our plan to do 10 issues a year. The next Right on The Spot is distributed November 22-23 – if you’d like to be in it – send me an email.

Best regards,

Lennart Svanberg

@ INTERNET MARKETING NEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

- This news-section is a compilation of online news since our last issue.

==> China's Internet Boom

China now has about as many Internet users - 87 million - as the United States. But because of its enormous population of nearly 1.3 billion people, online penetration is only about 7 percent of adults (compared say, to North America, where penetration is 69 percent.) Since Internet users grew by 34.5 percent last year, it is easy to envision a time, in the not so distant future, when China will be a powerhouse of users, content creators, applications, and advertisers.

==> Why Google Will Defeat Yahoo! in the Web Hosting War

The mighty (and now public) juggernaut Google, is emerging as the most formidable potential competitor in the Web hosting space. Who will suffer the most when Google enters Website hosting? Yahoo!

==> Hidden Adware Programs Hijack Hard Drives

Chuck Harris remembers when the Internet was fun and he'd spend hours reading his favourite news sites, checking the church calendar, browsing the shops. Then, a few weeks ago, he lost control of his computer. It turned into a giant electronic billboard.

@ REVIEW: WHO IS "RIGHT ON THE SPOT"?

==> Right On the Spot #4 – Google

Google has done it! They recently launched their desktop search that virtually can replace a vital part of Microsoft’s Operating System – the search functionality.

Google shows that having fun, take for example the look of their desktop logo, is not bad for business. It’s only Google that can present them self as Goooooooooogle.com in their contextual advertising without having corporate bureaucrats going through the roof.

I surrender myself to the God’s in San Francisco – here’s my body & soul – you’re the best!!

@ INTERVIEW WITH MYSELF – LENNART SVANBERG

Q: Why did you become an Internet Marketer?

A: I struggled between 1994-1998 to understand the difference between offline & online marketing. I started working as a Webmaster for BTS.Com in 1998, which finally led me to the answer. I decided to dedicate my career to explain this finding to other marketers.

Q: How did the Internet Marketing Conference start?

A: I visited the very first conference on Search Engines in 1999. I was the only Scandinavian, one of 10 Europeans amongst hundreds of "screaming" Americans. I realized the business potential for bringing people together.

Q: How do you see the future for IMC?

A: In Montreal, IMC has found a good base for bringing people together from every corner of the world. In Gothenburg, IMC launches its first All-European conference so the future has never looked brighter. National boundaries mean much less in the Internet era. I envision IMC being established in the four corners of the world within a couple of years - it's very exciting.
